ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Pharmacy 2 is the new Damien Hirst restaurant launched in collaboration with Mark Hix based in Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery. This was one of our most challenging projects to date, due to the detailed embroidery work involved for the seating.

Commissioned by contractors WFC and working alongside Hirst’s company Science Ltd. and architects Caruso St John, the project entailed us custom-building over thirty metres of upholstered bench seating units. The bespoke units have been upholstered in blue leather with Hirst’s pill designs embroidered onto the backrests. We faithfully reproduced Hirst’s thirty-seven pill designs each consisting of over 250,000 stitches which took around 12 hours each to embroider.
In addition to the fixed seating, we were asked to manufacture ten high ‘pill’ stools. The stools have been moulded in PU, each come in a different pastel shade and stand on mirror polished stainless steel legs.

The completed furniture met with Science and Caruso St John’s exacting standards and has become a fully-fledged part of Hirst’s second Pharmacy restaurant come art installation. Indeed, the embroidery work has been mentioned in many of the restaurants rave reviews!
